Bhakti Yoga is the path of personal relationship with Spirit, with God, with Goddess; a relationship that includes all the flavours and moods of the human heart. In the journey of Bhakti our emotions become the fuel to reconnect us with the Divine and, in so doing, to find healing and wholeness within ourselves.
Join Nubia Teixeira and Jai Uttal for a weekend of Bhakti Yoga. In this joyous retreat we will explore how the body, the heart, and the mind support and complement each other in our journey towards the realm of infinite love and grace. Nubia will lead the asana, pranayama and dance practices, which will anchor us in our bodies and open us to the meditative practice of calling to the divine. Jai will lead us in the ancient practice of Kirtan, or chanting, the heart and soul of devotional yoga. Together they will guide us in a heart-opening adventure through breath, movement and sacred sound, blending these traditions in a deep and playful way. All levels are invited; in the land of love there are no experts.
Jai Uttal, sacred music composer, recording artist, instrumentalist, and ecstatic vocalist, combines music and inspiration from India with his background in western folk, jazz, and popular traditions, creating a stimulating and exotic multi-cultural fusion that is truly world spirit music. Having traveled extensively in India, where he met many beautiful saints and singers, Bhakti yoga became his personal path. Jai has been leading kirtans around the world for more than 30 years, creating a safe environment for people to open their hearts and voices. His sixth CD, “Mondo Rama”, was nominated for a Grammy award. He recently released a CD of Reggae influenced Kirtan entitled “Queen Of Hearts” and a collection of Kirtans for kids entitled “Kirtan Kids”.
A Brazilian-born yogini, Thai Massage practitioner and Reiki Master, Nubia has devoted herself to teaching many different aspects of Yoga for the past 20 years. Perceiving Yoga as a Healing Art, Nubia’s refinement and devotion to this ancient practice is reflected in her unique teaching, overflowing with heartfelt compassion and inspiration. A longtime dancer in the classical Indian dance tradition Odissi, Nubia joyfully infuses her classes with its symbology and sacred geometry. She is the author of the CD Pranayama: May Breath Be Our Prayer released by Sounds True.
Special guest Ram Dass will also join Jai on Saturday evening (via Skype).
